Stay Unforeseen Events Policy

Effective Date: June 11, 2021

By using the Stay Platform, you agree to abide by this policy.

Purpose

The purpose of this Unforeseen Events Policy is to outline situations which may not be appropriately addressed by a standard cancellation policy. Generally, it applies to unforeseen events which negatively impact a booking. In these instances, this policy will supersede the cancellation policy that the Host has associated with the impacted booking.

Inclusions and Exclusions

Examples of situations covered under this policy could include changes to government regulations, national emergencies, acts of war and other hostilities, and natural disasters if it is determined, in Stay’s sole discretion, that they were unforeseeable. For example, a hurricane that occurs during hurricane season may be considered a natural disaster, but would not be considered unforeseeable. Similarly, hostilities erupting in a war zone would be excluded from coverage under this policy. 

An additional consideration would be timing, as the same event may be classified differently over time. For example, bookings made prior to, but meant to occur after, Covid-19 was declared a global pandemic could be cancelled under this policy. However, a booking made after the declaration which needed to be cancelled due to Covid-19 would be subject to the Hosts cancellation policy, as at that point complications of Covid-19 would be a foreseeable issue.

These examples are not meant to be an exhaustive list, and are only representative of situations that may arise that would be considered under this policy.

Bookings Cancelled by Hosts

If the Host cancels a booking under this policy, and Stay deems in its sole discretion that it qualifies, there will be no adverse consequences for the Host. The Host will not be permitted to accept another booking for the time period of the cancelled booking. 

Bookings Cancelled by Guests

If you have a confirmed booking that qualifies to be cancelled under this policy, you may receive a notification from Stay which will include instructions on how to cancel the booking. If you have a booking that you believe qualifies to be cancelled under this policy and you have not received a notification, contact support to confirm whether it qualifies, and if so, to assist with the cancellation.

Changes to this Policy

We reserve the right to make changes to this policy at any time at our sole discretion.  In the event of modifications to this policy, the changes will be posted on the Stay website, and/or Users will be notified of the changes.
